Not renderings, not stock photography. Students from the studio, with the things they designed, wired, tested and then stood up and explained to a room.

Magic Pets Robotics
Every one of these is different, because every child designed their own.
There is no class model that everybody copies. Students invent a creature, work out what has to move for it to behave the way they want, and then find out whether their design survives contact with an actual servo.
The wiring is visible on most of them and that is deliberate. Students are proud of the inside of the machine, because the inside is the part they had to understand.
Science fair and invention
A board is only worth as much as the work behind it.
Students design a test, run it enough times to trust the answer, and then present it to judges who ask real questions about method. The display board is a prop for that conversation.
Projects have ranged from environmental investigations to inventions solving problems the student found in their own house. The common thread is that the child chose the question and the child can defend it.

Fourteen years of cohorts
More than 1,300 students have come through this studio.
Through camps, competition teams, STEM conferences and one-off formats that came and went. The early ones are studying engineering now.

The first thing she did when she got home was take it apart to show me how the servo was mounted. She had names for every wire.
Our son had a judging interview where he was asked something he had not prepared for, and he just worked it out on his feet. That was the moment for us.
Three seasons in now. What has changed is not what she can build, it is that she no longer assumes she cannot.
